Wassabi Collective Showcase Blog

November 12, 2009

Wow, our very first Blog on our new website!! Welcome everyone!!

The alarm went off at 5:30 AM on showcase day, and believe it or not, everyone was in the lobby on time to head over to the Global BC Morning News for our appearance. It was amazing and the day just kept rolling from there. As we were driving back to the hotel, a guy in the car beside us was like “Hey, I just saw you on TV!”. Awesome! Our sound check went smoothly, Ben Sigston showed up and said he wanted to buy us like 50 drinks (man that guy is really nice!), Bob D’eith joined a few of us for Dinner, we all tried on the new headbands, and got pumped for the evening ahead.

The night had a great start with Alexandria Maillot. This super talented 16 yr old wowed the crowd with her amazing voice, and man can she drink a lot of tequila (just kidding!) Next up, Ben Sigston: two words-Cold Killer!!! Hit song!! Kuba Oms rocked out under a spotlight in the crowd and brought the energy and K-OS into the club! We were nervous to take the stage, but so ready to bring it. Our set was really fun, we gave it our all. The judges were even dancing. We unleashed 3 new songs written throughout the Peak experience and for our Canadian cover we rocked out a medley of Safety Dance, Informer, Lovers in a Dangerous Time & Spirit of the Radio. It was really great to see most of the crowd wearing our new headbands and amazing to hook up with so many friends from Boot Camp. What a super fun and talented community we have! There was even a man in a naked suit outside our show all night??? oh right that was Freeflow looking for votes (haha-love you guys) After the show, we went outside to do some marketing in the streets, since we don’t live in the big city, it was our only time to hit up the city folk. Our videographer came along and got some footage and interviews for our web series, and then…Pizza. Load Gear. Bed. A few hours of sleep and then off to perform at the BCIMA’s.

All in all these are 2 days we won’t soon forget. We were excited to see some of our biggest fans on the coast out to cheer us on and even had some fans come up from Bellingham,WA without tickets! Thank you to all the Peak staff for rockin the vibes inside & out, especially that Tamara Stanners, we love her!!! Also MusicBC and Jim Pattison for making it all possible for us BC musicians to live our dreams! Let’s have more days like these! xo
